The British 10K Review
So I have a love-hate relationship with the British 10k.
1. Their website being the first. The images don’t come up and it’s not built properly so it doesn’t look like a real website.
2. The fact that the course was all out & backs is annoying because in a big city like London why do you have to run by something twice?!
3. There were 30,000 people running a 6.2 mile course which isn’t long enough to have the crowd thin out after time. There was a cap on the number of participants but it should be even smaller in the upcoming years.
4. I PRed so I like the race.
So let’s start from the beginning. Saturday night we saw that the weather report for Sunday was 90% chance of rain so that made us not take it as seriously. The night before we had 3 drinks each when normally I wouldn’t drink anything. We also woke up 30 minutes late (oops – alarm didn’t go off!) so we rushed to the start without any coffee in us! AHHHHHHH
It was raining on our way there but as soon as we got ‘lined up’ it stopped so we thought we might be in the clear for the next hour or two. Look at this ‘corral’!!!
From the time the gun went off it took us 23 minutes to cross the line. Too many people!!!
We didn’t have our own personal photographers since the race was too early for Jon and David wasn’t in London but there were a couple professional photographers along the course so hopefully I’m in some photos from them. But this brings me to another point. I saw 5 professional photographers just STANDING THERE doing diddly squat. They were standing there with the cameras at their side and staring as the runners passed by. Do your job and take our photos!!
(end rant)
When i got to about 5k it started to DOWNPOUR. Not even a drizzle…RAINING CATS AND DOGS. Dodging people and puddles wasn’t fun but I’m guessing a PRed because I just wanted to get the race over with and get to a dry space aka my flat.
My Nike+ Sportswatch GPS said I ran 6.55 miles (10k should only be 6.2 miles) in 55:36 which is a great run for me!!
7:08 mile?!?! Who am I???
How awesome are the t-shirts?? And we got another one after the race that is red, white and blue. Awesome!
Did you run the British 10k? What did you think?
